Hello fellow artists and art lovers. I am finally getting around to starting a blog. I thought it was time that I implement the knowledge I use in my day job as an online marketing expert to help spread the word about my site. So, I will be imparting all the wisdom I can muster regarding painting, art promotion, museum visits and my personal interest in pre-impressionism.
I write to you now near Amsterdam, Holland where we are staying with family members. For the past two years, my husband has been working as a consultant in Holland and Finland so I have tagged along, serving clients over the Web and dragging canvases around, trying to find painting time. I’ve gotten pretty good at making due with minimal supplies and space and have no problem settling down to paint on a hotel bed or friend’s couch.
Of course, inspiration is everywhere when you travel and since I am focusing on unique flower paintings, I always have my camera ready in case a flower or plant catches my eye. Yesterday we went to meet my husband at the airport and while there, I found a flower shop with really interesting specimens. I captured at least two shots that could end up being featured in one of my paintings eventually.
I’m looking forward to sharing art with you and I hope you will reach out as well.

I love your artwork!!! I too have an attraction to plants and flowers especially. Thier exquisite beauty is inspiring…I am not very far along in my art career. In fact I sort of dropped out to have a family and earn some money. Now I want to get back and I am looking for every possible source of inspiration and encouragement along my new path. I would love to hear any advice you have as far as living the artful life….I live in Indianapolis and I know there are tons of opputunities. Its a matter of courage for me… Your blog is now on my favorites page! Thanks! Laurel
Thanks Laurel! We creative types must do whatever we can to continue creating…it is in our DNA. Now that you have space to get back into your artwork, you should define your new routine so that your family gets used to the changes. You’ll need time to seek inspiration, create and promote. It is difficult for most artists to do all three, no matter what their other obligations are. I’ve been able to find time to paint since I do it while watching movies with my husband at night. This works well for me since I’m not taking more time away from him or from my day job. During our travels, I go to all the museums and galleries I can and I have joined local art groups as well as online groups. All of this keeps me constantly engaged so I don’t lose any momentum for my goals. For you, I would guess that you need to primarily focus on building a body of work with a consistent style. For paintings, that means 15-20 before you can seriously approach galleries. Wishing you the best! Bayberry
